The March Group and Scam Emails

June 28, 2010

March Group Scam bloggers hate unnecessary emails. They bog up our fine blogging machine and we want to avoid all the email spam. So today’s blog relates to how we at The March Group Scam, avoid them for ourselves. First, take a good inventory of how often you put your personal email out to the World Wide Web, and if you are like us, it is surprisingly often. Then, once you realize that your email is not always protected, consider using a new and separate email address for posting messages to daily newsgroups or mailing lists. Any place that has your email address is another location that can be trawled to get your data. Not protecting your personal email can directly measure just how much of your spam is coming from these public forums.

Next, consider subscribing to online services that provide you with disposable addresses. When you subscribe to these service, you are given a ‘disposable’ address that actually forwards to your real, hidden address. If you begin to get too much spam from one address, take it out of circulation and find another one. One such company that The March Group Scam know of is Sneakemail at http://sneakemail.com.

Lastly, don’t overlook the biggest spam generator of all, your own website. Cloak your email address on your site so that roaming bots don’t find your personal email and spam you like crazy. To do this find a free email cloaking site that gives you an anonymous address that forwards to your real address, we like Acme Web Design at http://acme-web-design.info/free-web-email-cloaker.php.

It is estimated that 95% of Internet scams originate from spammers and spam email. June 15, 2010

Ever wonder just how effective your security software is?  Have you ever gone to the website of the security software to see their news on threats to look out for?  March Group scam finders are busy keeping themselves up to date on Internet scam and fraud threats.  For this blog we even checked out a few of the more popular security software sites to find out if these busy companies are really working on our side.  The March Group Scam and Fraud Watch thinks you should do the same, and so we gave you the links to follow in case you have one of these companies security software on your computer.
First we checked McAfee’s Threat Center (http://www.mcafee.com/us/threat_center/default.asp) to see if they were reporting on the latest threats and security breaches, you can also find the most up-to-date threats coming from IP addresses, which March Group Scam bloggers found very handy for those frequent unknown emails in our inboxes.  Then we looked at AVG (http://viruslab.blog.avg.com/) and they have a number of blogs about recent threats and trends, you’ll have to go through them to find the info you really want though.  So far McAfee wins for ease of use. Lastly we checked out Norton AntiVirus which was pretty user friendly and full of info on avoiding Internet threats, cons, scams and frauds (http://www.symantec.com/norton/security_response/index.jsp).
